Parents are their children’s
first and most important teachers.

 
But many say they need some help making the most of this critical role.
 
To help, Thrive leads a statewide messaging campaign, offers direct engagement opportunities based on specific themes and provides easy-to-use resources. With the help of partners throughout the state, we reach and engage children, families and communities where they are and through the people they trust the most.
 

Statewide Messaging Campaign: “Love. Talk. Play.”

 
The “Love. Talk. Play.” campaign aims to surround parents of children birth to age 3 with simple messages about three key things all parents can and need to be doing with their children every day: love, talk and play. Shaped by information from national early learning experts, conversations with parents and input from the state’s early learning regional coalitions and state partners, the campaign engages parents with these messages and easy ways they can take advantage of everyday moments.
 

Direct Engagement Opportunity: UNI

 
UNI, the Portable Early Learning Lab, visits communities throughout the state, complementing the thematic granting program with hands-on activities that focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) learning. (The Foundation for Early Learning brought the UNI to Washington in 2013.)
 

Community Resources

 
Thrive is committed to keeping parents informed and engaged by making available two resource booklets: Getting School Ready!® and 10 Simple Ways to Encourage Learning. These resources provide parents and families with simple tips and ideas on how to help their children feel confident about transitioning to kindergarten. Since 2010, more than 240,000 booklets have been distributed to parents, caregivers, early learning programs, school districts and community organizations. The original Getting School Ready!® content came out of 40 community conversations with more than 400 parents, early childhood educators, kindergarten teachers, school principals, and community members, convened by the Foundation for Early Learning.
